Da Place Sure Shots entered their final bout of the season knowing fully well that they needed to close strong to win the Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.

With sister-team Hustlers picking up seven wins and surpassing Sure Shots earlier in the evening after a victory via forfeit over USSP Los Cabos, Sure Shots were placed in a tough situation, but still overcame their challenge.

Up against No. 4 seed USSP Fotten Palau at the USS Peleliu Club, Sure Shots wasted no time in securing the title. R.J. Mascarinas and Jojo Talibong opened with consecutive wins in the singles competition, bringing Sure Shots’ win total to 99, which equaled that of the Hustlers. The title was secured when Luis Fajardo won his singles match.

The two teams split the next two singles matches before Sure Shots swept the two doubles bouts.

With that, the Sure Shots finished with a league-best 103-23 win-loss record, while the Hustlers placed second with a 99-27 card.

Fotten Palau finished in fourth place with a 69-57 record.

For their part, the VFW Warriors finished third with an 81-44 record after taking six of seven matches against Vargas Hotshots at Jonny’s Bar. The Warriors won the first three matches before letting the Hotshots get on the board. The remaining three games were then dominated by the Warriors.

Wild Wild West also finished on the top half of the field by placing fifth after beating Ysabel’s Bull-Sig, 6-1. The West crew was on fire in the early stages and took the first four matches. Bull-Sig finally picked up a win courtesy of Rene Pe in the fifth singles match, but momentum returned to the West as the team swept the doubles competition.

Wild Wild West finished with a 62-63 record, while Bull-Sig finished just behind with a 59-67 card.

In the other bout of the evening, Godfather’s What Doin’ was able to beat Porky’s Nightbangers, 5-2.

Godfather’s finished with a 58-67 record, followed by the Hotshots (53-72) and Nightbangers (51-74). Los Cabos was in contention in the early part of the season but has forfeited its matches the previous month to finish in the cellar with a 38-87 record.
