Faller is unflappable in October
Gil Faller should thank his lucky stars that the four golfers that had lower scores than him already won this year.
Faller was named Fil-Taga Golf Association Ace of October 2006 after Freddie Cataluna (March Ace), Ed Cabotaje (September Ace), Ralph Yumul (August Ace), and Father Manny Corcuera (February Ace) were disqualified from the monthly ace after already winning earlier in the year.
Faller came away with a net score of 76 last Oct. 15 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course to take home the monthly plum, despite shooting a higher score than Cataluna (73 net), Cabotaje (73), Yumul (74), and Corcuera (74).
A total of 20 Fil-Taga members took part in the action. The rest of the field, with their net scores in parenthesis, were as follows: Henry Bautista (77); Rene Batallones (77); Edgar Abalos (78); Nestor Siruelo (78); Mike Cruz (79); Jhun Calma (80); Manny Po (80); Rey Ferraz (81); Jess Aldan (84); Ted Malaran (85); Greg Gamboa (85); Jun Dela Cruz (87); Nono Bostre (87); John Matsumoto (89); and Mando Guban (90).
Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.
A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
