On October 19, 2006, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. conducted a public hearing at the Sinapalo Youth Center on Rota. The purpose of this public hearing was to inform the general public about the implementation of the new utility rate hike that is presently in effect.

Due to conflicting schedules by the 11th Rota Municipal Council Members, they were not able to attend, as they were all off-island on official business. However, all the members are in concert with the sentiments of the general public about their dismay with this new rate hike.

The cost of living on Rota, as well as our utility rates, is one of the highest in the nation. It is profoundly unjustified that such a rate hike took effect prior to any public hearing concerning its implementation. In line with this, we the members of the 11th Rota Municipal Council Members hereby request the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. to find solutions to lower the present power rate for the benefit of our people, especially those that are economically disadvantaged.
