Geckos upset Stormz
The Saipan International School Geckos scored their third win against the high-ranking Marianas Baptist Academy Stormz in the junior varsity Private School Volleyball League.
Seeking revenge from Friday’s loss to MBA, the SIS team attributes teamwork and communication to Monday’s surprise victory.
The first set went point for point between the teams, until MBA pulled ahead to a 17-14 lead. Unwilling to give up, SIS fought back with killer serves from Jellian Majors, Zoe Jewell, Shane Jones, and Do Hee Kim to pull ahead and eventually win the first set, 25-20.
“We came through with our deep serves this game. That’s something we’ve been practicing,” remarked SIS coaches Kim Peterson and Becca Newman.
SIS led most of the way in the second game, until an MBA all-star shocked the team with a powerful overhand serve. Proving they wanted the win, SIS regained focus and broke the serve. Strong plays from Tricia Palacios, Kai Kushihata, and Grace Brostrom led the team to win the second set, 25-23.
“We’re very excited about this win because it moves us up in seed for the upcoming tournament,” said Peterson and Newman.
SIS now has a record of 3-10 with one game to go. SIS was set to challenge Seventh Day Adventist for the final game of the regular season at 3:30pm yesterday at Seventh Day Adventist. (PR)
