New CDA member sworn in
A new member of the Commonwealth Development Authority board was recently sworn in, taking the seat vacated six months ago by former board chair Tom Glenn Quitugua of Rota.
Oscar Quitugua, a former principal of Rota High School, took his oath of office Thursday last week during a CDA board meeting on Saipan.
The oath-taking was administered by incumbent CDA board chair Vincent Calvo.
“We congratulate him and we welcome him as the newest addition to the board. I believe that he has the necessary skills and expertise needed by CDA. He is, by the way, a former CDA board member,” said Calvo, who also hails from Rota.
Then board chair Quitugua had initially resisted repeated calls for his resignation but in April this year, he decided to resign from the post, citing political pressures from the Fitial administration.
Oscar Quitugua’s entry now leaves only one vacancy on the CDA board.
Calvo said only Tinian lacks one representative to the board. Tinian board member Antonio Borja ended his term in late August.
“We are still waiting for a nomination from Tinian,” said Calvo.
Currently, the board consists of three members from Saipan, including a representative from the women sector: Marcie Tomokane, Manny Sablan, and Pedro Itibus.
Tinian has Edwin Hofschneider, while Rota has Calvo and Quitugua.
Heeding the administration’s call earlier this year, Tomokane, Itibus, Calvo, and Hofschneider resigned. They have since been reappointed for a new four-year term on the CDA board.
The members are concurrent board members of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp., a subsidiary of CDA.
