Manager Jess Wabol’s Manhoben Young Guns continued to show their resilience Friday night when they nipped the North Stars with three runs in the bottom of the eighth at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The Young Guns only managed six hits off of the North Stars but they took advantage of their opponent’s miscues by placing four runners on base and scoring the game winning run via errors.

Second baseman Cadez Tenorio went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles for Manhoben while teammate Tony Palacios went 2-for-5 with a pair of base knocks, a run batted in, and two stolen bases.

Centerfielder Jesse Agulto had a solid day at the plate for the North Stars with a 3-for-4 performance that yielded three singles and a pair of stolen bags in a losing effort.

After each team scored a run in the first inning, the North Stars took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning and added a pair in the fifth to take a five run advantage before Wabol’s bats woke up.

The Young Guns capitalized on the North Stars errors to even the game at six apiece when Shane Yamada crossed home plate to cap a five run fifth. The Stars recaptured the lead in the top of the seventh when Jesse Jones and Jesse Agulto scored off of a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch and it looked like the game was all but decided.

Wabol’s boys regrouped by capitalizing on a pair of errors by shortstop Robert Bansil. The Young Guns got their seventh run when Bansil called off third baseman Sam Babauta while running for a fly ball that was almost on top of the bag and dropped the ball.

Manhoben took the lead on another Bansil error when his throw to first went off the top of the first baseman Tino Mafnas’ glove allowing two runs to score. Had the throw been in time and on target only one run would have scored and there would have been two outs with a runner on third. Instead, the game ended after the North Stars were unable to score in the top of the ninth.
