NMITF offers post turkey day tri
The Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation is offering the public an opportunity to work off the extra calories packed on during the Thanksgiving Day feast as they host a pair of three-stage races on their familiar stomping grounds in Marpi.
According to race director and NMITF secretary Sue Knecht, the adrenaline junkies have their choice between a Sprint and a Double Sprint race on Sunday, Nov. 26 that will take racers through the waters along Pau Pau Beach and along the scenic stretch of Chalan Pale Arnold.
The races were originally slated for last weekend and changed once again to this weekend as many local triathletes were originally unable to get southbound flights for the Rota Blue Triathlon but Knecht said that she received several emails to change the date.
The Sprint distance race consists of a 600m swim, and 18km bike, and a 4km run while the Double Sprint offers a 1,200mswim, 36km bike, and 8km run for the adventure seekers.
As with every race, teams are allowed and all participants will be entered to win the $150 Pacific Islands Club Sprint Series grand prize in February as well as a PIC prize package.
Knecht offered additional incentive to get out and race. Aside from the race raffle there will be a special raffle for new racers and those who bring them to do the whole event or any portion of the triathlon.
“The more races you do, the more chances to win. There are also great random prizes as usual from our fabulous sponsor, the Pacific Islands Club,” said Knecht.
Rather than host an early morning race, Knecht said that registration starts at 3:30pm with a 4pm go time, but that she asks that all prospective participants pre-register with her via email at Sueknecht@yahoo.com by Wednesday, Nov. 22.
