GFA offers coaching clinic
The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association has been working hard to bring the world’s most popular sport to the CNMI and they are getting some help from their southern neighbors to give local kids the mentors they need.
]A day after enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, officials with the Guam Football Association are coming to Saipan to host a two-day coaching clinic aimed at educating seasoned instructors and rookies alike.
According to director of youth league action, Sue Knecht, anyone interested in coaching youth soccer is invited to attend next weekend’s courses.
“Even if you don’t feel secure about it, this clinic would teach you most of what you need for entry level recreational soccer. It may even benefit you as a parent, even if you are not coaching, to understand what your child’s coach is trying to accomplish,” she said.
The clinics are free to all participants and attendees do not have to currently be coaching a team. The learning process starts with a classroom session on Friday, Nov. 24, from 6pm to 8pm and transitions outdoors on Saturday, Nov. 25, with a period of field instruction from 8am to 3pm
Nearly 30 prospective and current coaches have already expressed interest in the course and organizers ask that anyone interested in attending inform them of their intentions by Wednesday, Nov. 22, via email at sueknecht1@yahoo.com.
