HI lawmaker donates linens to CHC
A Hawaiian congressman extended his Thanksgiving generosity to the Commonwealth by providing over 10 boxes of linens, blankets and towels to the Commonwealth Health Center.
Rep. Glenn Wakai of the 31st Representative District of the Hawaii State Legislature provided the linens, blankets and towels to the hospital as a gesture of appreciation to the CNMI. The formal turnover of the linens was held last Wednesday, the day before the Thanksgiving Day.
Department of Public Health deputy secretary Joseph Santos said the hospital is always grateful to the lawmaker for his benevolence. He said Wakai has been donating many items to the CNMI hospital. Last year the congressman gave away crutches and wheelchairs.
“This is something that we don’t actually expect. He [Wakai] used to live in the CNMI,” Santos said, adding that some of the donations have already been used by the hospital for its patients.
DPH secretary Joseph Kevin P. Villagomez together with other hospital administrators joined Santos in the formal turnover of the donations from the congressman.
Wakai joined 33 lawmakers and other officials from Micronesian islands and Hawaii in June for the Association of Pacific Island Association’s 25th general assembly held on Saipan.
APIL is a regional organization of legislative representatives from the governments of the CNMI, Guam, Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, Chuuk, American Samoa, Yap, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Palau, Nauru and Kiribati.
In related news, the hospital also received similar donations from the Hyatt Regency Saipan earlier this year. The hotel donated approximately 300 bed sheets and 300 pillowcases.
Hyatt’s general manager Michael Von Siebenthal led the donation, together with assistant manager Matt Araki, executive housekeeper Rosalyn Castro and assistant housekeeping manager Shane Villanueva.
