The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association is gearing up for its first-ever men’s league on Saipan and while a number of players and teams have already expressed interest in lacing up the cleats and donning the shin pads, organizers are looking to pick up additional participants for what should prove to be an exciting start for the future hometown stars.

Before the action starts at the American Memorial Park pitch, all interested players, coaches, and referees are invited to attend the second organizational meeting for the inaugural NMIFA Men’s Open Football League this evening, Nov. 27, at 6pm at the Thai House Restaurant on Beach Road in Garapan.

Topics on tap for the meeting include registration of players and the collection of $400 fee to verify how many squads will be taking part. League coordinator Vince Stravino said that organizers are still determining if there are enough individuals to form another team.

Stravino said that organizers are looking to complete the registration process as soon as possible in order to get the regular season’s slate underway no later than December. Games will be played on Sundays at the AMP through December and January followed by the season ending tournament at Hopwood Junior High School on Feb. 4

Players and team representatives who plan on attending tonight’s meeting should contact Stravino to confirm their attendance via email at vincestravino@yahoo.com.
