While they are used to getting their strokes in at the Kan Pacific Pool, the top notch athletes of the Saipan Swim Club will get a new set of mechanics to master this weekend at the Marianas Country Club during the first SSC Golf Tournament.

Traveling throughout the region winning medals as polished ambassadors for the CNMI takes its toll on the club’s coffers and SSC head coach Michael Stewart said the club is continuing its fund raising efforts by hosting its first-ever golf tournament this Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Marianas Country Club.

While the tournament is a fundraiser, participants stand a chance of cashing in as well with $500 going to first place, $300 to second place, and $100 for third. To help level the playing field, the tournament will feature a double Peoria scoring system where undisclosed six holes will determine each player’s handicap.

The cost to participate in the tournament is $85 and includes a day on the links, an assortment of mini-games, lunch, refreshments, and awards banquet at the Marianas Resort & Spa’s Lastella Restaurant.

Among the mini-games are putting, long drive, and closest to the pin contests.

Stewart said that he is getting some big name help to organize the event as the Jeff Taylor, Ben Babauta, and Ron Hodges will be running the show on the Marpi course.

To register for the tournament, contact Stewart by calling 322-9474 or via email at wfla@hotmail.com, Ben Babauta by calling 236-2563 and 483 2563, or Mike Majors by calling 788-1427.
