An autopsy conducted by Guam chief medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola confirmed that the naked woman who was found dead along the shoreline of Laulau Beach was killed.

Espinola ruled that foul play was involved and that the victim died of asphyxiation, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. yesterday.

Blas said Espinola determined that the cause of death was drowning.

The medical examiner performed the autopsy on the body Friday at 9:30pm at the Commonwealth Health Center.

Asphyxiation or suffocation is a loss of consciousness due to the presence of too little oxygen. A person suffering from asphyxiation should be given rescue breathing, according to medical books.

As of yesterday, investigators had yet to establish the identity of the victim and as to what company she was affiliated with, Blas said.

“Until now [yesterday] nobody has come forward to identify the body, so we are still asking around to establish her identity,” he said.

The DPS spokesman said they don’t have information as to how many persons were involved in the woman’s death.

The NMI Crime Stoppers Program is offering up to $1,000 cash to anyone who can provide information that will lead to an arrest, said Blas who is also the coordinator of Crime Stoppers.

Two local fishermen found the dead woman along the shoreline of the southernmost portion of Laulau Beach Thursday afternoon. Police immediately classified the case as a homicide.

Police said the victim had a distinguishing mark of a red rose tattoo on the left chest. She was described as about 20 to mid-30 years old, 5’0” to 5’5”tall, slim, between 110 to 120 lbs, light-skinned and with reddish brown dyed hair above shoulder length.

Police said that clothes found at the scene were a multi-colored stripe blouse, a black jean-type pants with a brand name “MHAL.”

It was the second case of a woman found dead at a Saipan beach in five years.

On Aug. 9, 2001, Ai Fang Han was spotted dead on the shoreline of Obyan Beach. She was naked when she was found at the southernmost tip of the beach.
