Bayani Association joins Suds for Funds
Close to 15 officers and members of the Filipino civic group Bayani Association joined Shell Marianas’ Suds for Funds carwash event held last Saturday, Nov. 25, at Shell’s Dandan service station, and was able to raise approximately $300 for the group’s various projects, including a training program for Filipino guest workers in the CNMI.
Shell Marianas, Coca-Cola Beverage Company (Micronesia), Inc. and Beach Road magazine sponsor the monthly Suds for Funds car wash. Shell designated the station and supplied cleaning materials while CCBC Micronesia provided drinks to the participants.
“We are very grateful to Shell Marianas, Coca-Cola Beverage Co. (Micronesia) and Beach Road magazine for setting up the fundraiser event. The money we were able to raise is a big help to our organization,” said Ed Reyes, Bayani chairman.
It was the second time that the group was able to take part in Shell’s Suds for Funds carwash, the first being in August last year at Shell’s Highway Express service station on Middle Road in Gualo Rai. The group had pre-sold car wash coupons for the fundraiser.
Reyes said they would use the money to supplement funding for their regular newsletter and the “Tuloy-Aral” Program for Filipino nonresident workers.
The training program is being done under the auspices of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment’s Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Part of the funds raised would also be used to help finance medication of three Bayani members who suffered injuries in a recent basketball tournament.
The next Suds for Funds car wash is scheduled for Dec. 16 at Shell’s Susupe service station. Interested parties may get in touch with Shirley Mendiola, station operations manager at 235-5028 for further details. (PR)
