The new entrance gate at the Suicide Cliff Japanese Monuments on Tinian will be officially opened on Dec.5, at 10am.

In a statement issued yesterday, Tinian Mayor Jose P. San Nicolas is inviting the public to the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Suicide Cliff on Tuesday next week.

The Office of the Mayor of Tinian and Aguiguan constructed an entrance gate to the Suicide Cliff Japanese Monuments in hopes of preventing any more vandalism to the monuments.

“The monuments were vandalized several months ago so the construction of the entrance gate by the municipality is a token of our efforts and commitment in protecting and honoring the Japanese memorials that have been erected at Suicide Cliff,” said San Nicolas in the statement.

“For years the people of Tinian have worked hard to build a genuine friendship with the people of Japan, a friendship based on mutual respect. The Japanese monuments have become a part of our island, and a symbol of our friendship,” he added. (PR)
