The Department of Environmental Quality Regulators routed the Commonwealth Health Center, 24-1, Monday night to notch their first win in three attempts in continuation of the Inter-Government Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League.

DEQ was all business at Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Softball Field by opening with an eight-run inning to start the game en route to the lopsided victory

The Regulators led CHC, 14-1, through three innings before erupting for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth. After CHC failed to post a miraculous comeback in the top of the fifth umpires were forced to invoke the league’s 10-run mercy rule and send everyone home early.

Shortstop Elmer Sablan was a home run away from hitting for the cycle and finished the night 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, while second baseman J.P. Flores was perfect in his four attempts at the plate with three singles, a double, and three ribbies for the red clad Regulators.

“We neutralized the Emergency Room,” said Sablan.

Following the contest, head coach Munch praised his team for winning its first game of the season and said they brought their bats to the ballpark Monday night.

“They did awesome man. After two losses they came back with the boom,” said Munch.

The coach said that solid team play led to the Regulators’ win and that his boys have the chance to do the same thing every time they take the field.

Base hits, solid hits, good defense, and teamwork. There’s no ‘I’ in team,” said Munch.

Despite being out-hit by their opponents, the Airport Rescue Firefighters defeated the boys from Department of Community and Cultural Affairs II by a pair of runs Monday night, 10-8.

ARFF made the most of the offense they produced as Ed Ogo went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run batted in while second baseman Lionel Sanchez fired off a three-run triple during a four-run sixth inning that eventually decided the game in ARFF’s favor.

At 2-2, ARFF is still in the hunt while the under achieving DCCA II is just a couple of bounces away from finding its winning ways at 0-2.

Legislature 16, DPW 13

The team from the hill hammered hits at will as the Legislature’s sluggers powered out a 16-13 win over the Department of Public Works during a 40-hit smack fest at the Oleai Sports Complex.

Legislature’s first baseman Fred Ralig drove in five runs on the night while outfielder Paul Reyes went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, a sacrifice fly, and two runs batted in to help even their team’s record to 2-2.

Pitcher Pete Towai helped his cause by smacking two base hits and scoring three times as skipper Mike Borja’s talented DPW squad fell for the first time this season.
