Ray Basa and John Mongami won the Blind Draw Tournament held following the 2006 Summer/Fall Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League awards banquet Tuesday night at the USS Peleliu Club in Garapan.

Basa and Mongami bested an eight-team field and collected the championship trophies and $100 first-place purse after beating the combo of Senen Pangilinan and Norbert Camacho in the finals. Pangilinan and Camacho settled for $60 after finishing second.

The competition was exciting from the get-go, as organizers decided to spice up the tournament by adopting the blind draw format to designate partner assignments.

That was how Basa and Mongami got together and they proved they had good teamwork off the bat, as they alternated shots perfectly to hurdle the pair of Nolan Cultura and Sam Babauta to advance to the second round.

Pangilinan and Camacho also came away a winner in their first outing following their surprise win over Jerry Soriano and John Babauta.

Other first-round results saw Rolly Villanueva and Ron Chisato outplay Diamond Aldan and Joe Fejeran and Ed Suzuki and Karl Reyes doing a number on Rowel Mariano and Frank Pangelinan.

In the semis, Basa and Mongami continued to build on their momentum by topping Villanueva and Chisato, while Pangilinan and Camacho joined them in the finals with a victory over Suzuki and Reyes.

Pacific Amusement, the same company that runs the leagues of the Saipan Electronic Darts Association, organized the Blind Draw Tournament and was also in charge with the recently concluded Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League.

The company extended its thanks for last season’s sponsors namely VFW Post 3457, Da Place Sports Bar, Porky’s Beach Bar, Wild Bill’s, USSP, Ysabel’s, Vargas, Godfather’s Bar, and MARPAC.

The new season will start the third week of January 2007 and the upcoming sponsors include Les Sports Bar, Round 2 Bar and Grill, Club Rage, Krystal Perfect Spot, Tan G’s, and Bud’s Bar.
