Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts is finishing preparation for its annual traditional Christmas performance with the participation of guest ballet professionals from Russia and Japan this Dec. 8 and 9. The well-known ballet, Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, will be staged at 7pm Friday and Saturday night at the Theatre Hall of Hotel Nikko Saipan.

The performances will consist of two segments: Glushko’s Academy students, performing a short excerpt of Sleeping Beauty, specially adapted by Anna Glushko, followed by a special concert featuring the visiting ballet professionals in scenes from other ballet favorites, including The Nutcracker, Giselle, and Le Corsaire.

The principal ballet dancers of the N. Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theatre, Leonid Sychev and Julia Anufrieva, have been invited by Glushko’s Academy to perform. Two soloists from the famous Takagi Ballet School of Tokyo, Aya Muto and Saeko Kato, will perform as well. The relationship with the Takagi Ballet School was established by Glushko’s Academy with last year’s Christmas event, making this the second visit of ballet soloists from this school.

In preparation for this event, the young and adult students of Glushko’s Academy have learned new steps, their movements creating a magical story featuring a Royal palace and the enchanted princess, Aurora, rescued from her slumber by a handsome prince. Each student will perform in the ballet in specially designed costumes.

Although the production costs to stage this event are fairly high, tickets to this event are priced at a very affordable $15 for adult tickets and $10 for children, available at Ebisuya store (Susupe), Himawari store (Garapan), and Thai House Restaurant. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the day of the performance; however, advance purchase is recommended since past years’ performances have been sold out.
