The Northern Marianas College’s graduating class of Spring 2008 recently stepped up its involvement in the planning stage for the upcoming commencement ceremonies by electing representatives who will actively participate in the selection of a keynote speaker, the nomination of student leadership awards, and other key components of the ceremony.

“The graduating class of 2008 is composed of students with innovative and creative ideas,” said NMC president Dr. Fernandez. “Their involvement in this year’s graduation ceremonies will make the event especially unique and memorable.”

In a recent meeting, the graduating class members elected officers to represent them in all aspects of the planning process. Those elected include: Queanna Sablan, president; Rose Marie Jones, vice president; Jacklyn Echon, secretary; Priscilla Maratita, treasurer; and June Seman, public relations officer.

Class members were also asked to consider nominating leaders within their class whom they would like to recognize at the ceremony. A committee has been tasked with interviewing and selecting prospective nominees. Furthermore, as part of the college’s effort to incorporate new traditions to the graduation festivities, the graduating class was asked to select among themselves a “student marshal” who has made a positive impact at the college and who whose chief responsibilities will include leading the graduates to their seats.

The graduation ceremony for Spring 2008 will be held on May 24, 2008 at the Marianas High School Gym. (NMC)
