Women’s Nationals continue Marianas Cup preparations
Coach Nick Swain and the CNMI Women’s National Team continue their ongoing preparations for the 2nd Marianas Cup as they have scheduled at least 14 more practice sessions before meeting Guam on April 26.
Swain has been conducting shooting and conditioning practices with the team from Wednesday to Monday with Tuesdays an off day. The team regularly practices at 4:30pm at the CPA Field but they also use the fields at the Oleai Sports Complex and at Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
They will then have a team pasta dinner on April 24, Thursday, with the venue and time to be announced at a latter date before the big game.
Rima Halaby, Natalie Hill, Katie Peters, Patty Coleman, Madison Smith, Zoe Jewell, Brenda Schultz, Connie Camacho, Elisa Fejeran, Ashley Hofschneider, Meaghan Hassel-Shearer, Lindsay Davis, Emily Gries, Becca Newman, Amanda Allen, Jenny Linden, Francine Sablan, Nikki Gabaldon, and Maryana Gramlich are the members of the 19-member team.
After the CNMI-Guam women’s match on April 26, Saturday, the CNMI Men’s National Team will also compete against Guam the following day.
The CNMI will play host to both Guam squads in back-to-back matches that are expected to be highly competitive and exciting.
Tryouts for the CNMI Nationals began in November last year and the final roster was announced after 17 days.
After a few days break for Christmas and New Year, Swain began with a month-and-a-half long conditioning program designed to increase their agility, stamina, and endurance.
Aside from their regular training, the Women’s Nationals also play against other local teams as part of their preparation for the Marianas Cup.
Aside from youth players they also have some permanent residents included in the squad, which will serve as the backbone of the women’s program for years to come. Swain has set a long-term vision for the national team.
This time the Women’s Nationals have a longer time to prepare for the Marianas Cup compared to last year when they only had six weeks to form the team.
