‘Silver Streak’ moved to June 21
Organizers of the 15th “Silver Streak” Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run moved the annual 4.2-kilometer walk/run from June 14 to June 21.
Event coordinator Wolf Mojica said they decided to move the annual fun run in order to avoid a conflict with the Tinian Turquoise Blue Triathlon on June 14, Saturday.
“Because I want to make sure that everyone that wants to participate in the Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run can participate, I have moved the event to the week following the Tinian Turquoise Triathlon,” said Mojica.
“So those of you that mentioned you want to do both [Tinian Triathlon and Silver Streak]. See you on June 21.”
The race starts at 6am in front of the DFS Galleria main entrance on Beach Road where runners will run southward and turn around at the World War II Japanese tank at Quartermaster Road.
The entrance fee is $10 and forms can be collected at the DFS Galleria Customer Information Counter located at the north entrance from 10am to 10:30pm every day.
Payments for registration can be made from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Proceeds of the annual fun run will be donated to a local charity organization. Final registration will be at 5am on June 21.
The first 175 finishers will receive a free T-shirt and there will be prizes for the top male and female finishers as well as age group winners.
The fun run memorializes former DFS Galleria president Tom Picarro, who served from 1979 to 1992. The racecourse follows the same route Picarro runs along Beach Road as he waves to passers by.
“He had a great head of white hair and that is where we got the name Silver Streak,” Mojica said.
