‘Another successful NMC Open’
NMC Foundation Open co-chair Ben Babauta thanked all 132 players that joined last Saturday’s annual golf tournament for making the event successful.
Babauta, who is also president of the Northern Marianas College Foundation, said this year’s tournament was very exciting with all the great Hole-in-one prizes that were at stake and other prizes they have given to all the winners and in the raffle.
“Those who joined the HANMI golf tournament lead the successful list of participants. I am thankful for the support of the community and all volunteers that helped make this year’s NMC Open successful,” Babauta said.
He said that the golf fundraiser raised over $93,000, which is three percent higher than last year’s amount of $91,500. “Participation also increased from 108 last year to 132 this year.”
A number of golfers from Guam, Japan, and Korea also joined the tournament—raising the level of competition this year. Babauta thanked all local golf associations, especially the newly formed CNMI Women’s Golf Association for their members’ participation.
Babauta said the money would be used to continuously support the college’s financial needs, programs, and assistance to infrastructure.
He added he expects next year’s tournament to be even better. “Things are getting bigger and better every year. We always raise the bar and expect to have an exciting event every year.”
Joung Hoon Park bested a tough field in the men’s Championship Flight to win the 6th Annual NMC Foundation Open at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Park tamed the west course of the Kagman golf facility shooting a three-over-par 75, to enjoy a two-shot lead over perennial title contender Jeff Taylor and Dan Singh, who battled it out for second place in a scorecard playoff.
