‘I tendered my resignation six months ago’
Former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Anthony C. Guerrero yesterday clarified that he did not submit a resignation letter or resigned hours after Gov. Benigno R. Fitial delivered his State of the Commonwealth Address on Friday.
In an e-mail to Saipan Tribune, Guerrero said Fitial accepted his courtesy resignation and delivered to him at CUC hours after his SOCA.
Guerrero pointed out that he submitted his courtesy resignation nearly six months ago or on Nov. 7, 2007, as Fitial requested from all Cabinet members and political appointees on that day.
“I respect the governor’s decision to move the corporation in another direction. I humbly ask the CUC employees to continue their professionalism, dedication, and commitment in providing services to our great Commonwealth,” he said.
Guerrero also urged all CUC employees to support the new CUC executive director Antonio Muna and the administration during this difficult and challenging period in the Commonwealth.
The Fitial administration tapped Guerrero in January 2006 to serve as acting CUC executive director. Eight months later, the governor made him permanent executive director.
According to the Public Information and Protocol Office, Fitial accepted Guerrero’s resignation and appointed Muna, the former special assistant for the Office of Management and Budget, as new CUC executive director effective today, Monday.
Muna previously served as a receiver for the rehabilitated Bank of Saipan. He had resigned as budget official for the Fitial administration in December 2007, but stayed on as a financial adviser to the governor.
