The Society for Human Resources Management-CNMI Chapter will be having its monthly membership meeting on Thursday, May 15, with lawyer Marcia K. Schultz as special guest.

Schultz, who is with the Carlsmith Ball LLP, Law Office, will be speaking on updates to the Family Medical Leave Act. Enacted by U.S. Congress in 1993, the Family Medical Leave Act provides 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees. Employers with over 50 employees are required to provide such leave for eligible employees for certain family and medical reasons. The Thursday meeting will provide insight on the important changes and amendments Congress has proposed for FMLA.

“As Human Resource professionals, we face many challenges with certain provisions of the FMLA that affect the daily operations of our organization. This is one meeting you do not want to miss and reservations are now being accepted,” the Society said in a statement.

The Chapter meeting will be held at the Fiesta Resort and Spa in Azucena II. The luncheon meeting entrance fee is $15 for all SHRM members and $20 for non-SHRM members. The fee is inclusive of lunch. Doors open at 11:15am for registration. Presentation will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Reservations are required! Individuals interested in attending this meeting should pre-register by contacting Polly Deleon Guerrero at email pdlguerrero@mymarianas.com, Frannie T. Salas at francestsalas@gmail.com or Tara White at the Fiesta Resort and Spa, Human Resources Department at telephone no. 234-6412, fax no. 233-1216.

“All SHRM members are urged to join their peers for this current and informative discussion. Non-members, in the business community, whether owners, managers or human resource professionals, are invited to learn more about the Society and to improve their human resource knowledge through this meeting,” the Society statement said.

The CNMI Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management is the Commonwealth’s foremost professional forum for discussion and training in Human Resource matters. Recognized as a Superior Merit Chapter, the CNMI branch is composed of human resource professionals from a variety of industries, large and small, who recognize a need for a local society for professionals in the human resource field.
