SaipanCell Communications last week donated $5,000 of its educational tax credit to the NMC Foundation in a simple ceremony at the company’s head office in Gualo Rai.

The amount was the maximum allowed by law that companies could donate to their chosen entity, according to SaipanCell operations manager Paulina A. Johnson.

She said it was the third straight year the company has appropriated the maximum amount under the educational tax certificate program to the college.

“We want to help NMC. The last thing everybody wants is for the college to close down. The islands need a school for our children to go to college to and get a higher education,” said Johnson.

Present to accept the generous gift were Northern Marianas College officials led by its president Carmen Fernandez. NMC Foundation chair Ben Babauta was also in attendance as well as director Ivan Quichocho and the body’s executive director Mark Mendiola.

Fernandez said the $5,000 that SaipanCell donated will go a long way in helping the 6th Annual NMC Foundation Golf Tournament meet its goal of fundraising $90,000 for the islands’ lone tertiary institution.

Babauta thanked SaipanCell for donating its educational tax credit to the foundation. He said it goes to show that the company is really concerned about the future of NMC.

Joining Johnson in the turnover was SaipanCell business sales senior manager Joe Guerrero, sales representative Michael Mendoza, and other staff.

The 6th Annual NMC Foundation Open was held April 26 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
