Deadline today for King, Queen of the Diamonds
Teams who want to join the Saipan leg of the 2008 King and Queen of the Diamonds have until today to confirm their participation for the weekend slow-pitch softball tournament.
Games will open tomorrow for the first of a three-round tournament. The opening games will be held at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field while the final two days will be held at the Capital Hill Field near the Governor’s Office.
The second round will be held on July 19 and 20 and the third and final round will be on Sept. 20 and 21. Winners of the three rounds will automatically qualify for the Saipan leg championship round in October.
The second and third place teams in each round will play in a single-elimination format in the consolation draw with the fourth and final spot in the championship round at stake. Teams need to play in two out of the three rounds in order to qualify for the wild card playoff.
The winner of the October championship round will automatically qualify for the finals in Koror, Palau, where they would get an all-expense paid trip to represent Saipan in the Budweiser King and Queen of the Diamonds finals in November.
Teams have until 6pm to pay the $150 entrance fee during the scheduled meeting today to be held at Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room. Coaches or team representatives are required to attend the meeting.
Tournament coordinator Joey Dela Cruz said there are 16 teams who are interested in joining the competitions but the first 12 that will pay the $150 entrance fee will only be accepted.
Two female players need to play on the field at the same time.
Interested teams can now get their waiver forms from Dela Cruz at the Ada Gym.
