Do Re Mi’s young violinists woo audience
An extraordinary performance took place at the Agape Building of Eucon International School and College Saturday evening, when over 30 students of the Do Re Mi School of Music took the stage with their violins for the 19th Annual Violin Recital.
The performers ranged from children as young as five to adults, all from several different ethnic backgrounds, yet united in one purpose: to play music on the violin and to play it beautifully.
The event which was led by Maestro Ao Zhang, featured solos, duets, and group performances of masterpieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, G. Rossini, Jean Battiste Accolay, Handel, Vivaldi, Pachebell, and many others.
Young violinists Zhen Yu Su and Christian Wei wooed the audience with their solo performances of two of some of the most difficult pieces in the name of classical geniuses such as Wieniawski and Mendelssohn.
The evening’s emcee Dr. Roland Brown said he was awestruck by the performances of such young violinists.
“This is the first time I’ve ever been to this kind of concert and I am just so surprised we have this kind [of musical performance] on Saipan. I feel like I want to be a better person just by listening,” Brown said.
Zhang said that group worked really hard to get to the level they’re in now. “They prepared for one year and I am just so very proud of all their performances. They all did a wonderful job.”
Toward the end, the entire group played two of Pachebell’s famous numbers—”Canon” and “Parlez Moi D’Amour,” two magical classicals that did not fail to tug at listener’s heartstrings.
Zhang stressed the importance of learning to play the violin. He acknowledges the fact that playing the violin becomes a part of a person and not just something that one does. “Every violin has a soul connected to the heart,” said Zhang said.
Zhang graduated from Tian Jin Conservatory of Music and was accepted to play with the Tian Jin Symphony Orchestra. When he moved to Saipan, Zhang decided to open the Do Re Mi School of Music to share his expertise with the violin.
As the president of the school, Zhang works with instructor Wang Yi in teaching the students how to play the violin.
