The Tinian Republican Party Association hosted a gathering in honor of CNMI Washington Representative Pedro A. Tenorio last Saturday, May 17, at Tachogna Beach.

It was also held to celebrate the creation of a seat in the United States House of Representatives for a Delegate to Congress from the CNMI.

Newly elected president of the CNMI Republican Party Association, Edward Tenorio; Manny A. Tenorio, former precinct 1 Representative of the 15th Legislature; and Ana Teregeyo, board member of the Northern Marianas Republican Party, joined Ramon M. Dela Cruz, President of the Tinian Republican Party Association, 1st Vice-president Edward Shai, 2nd Vice-president Tony SN Borja, Secretary Carmen Quitugua Dela Cruz and Treasurer Gabriel Evangelista in congratulating and thanking the Washington Representative for his many years of service to the CNMI and the diligence with which he pursued a Delegate to Congress position for the people of the CNMI.

Tinian party president Ray Dela Cruz introduced the Washington Representative to the gathering, reviewing the many years of service Tenorio has given to the people of the CNMI, particularly in the arena of federal-territorial relations, beginning with the Covenant negotiations, implementation of the Covenant technical agreement, and ongoing negotiations, both as a lieutenant governor and as Washington Representative.

He also encouraged the crowd to sign Pete A.’s nominating petition, the Open Government Initiative proposed by CNMI Representative Tina Sablan, and, of course, registration forms for the Republican Party.

The Washington Representative spoke at length about how the position of Delegate to Congress will play a vital role in coordinating the implementation of new federal regulations that are being made applicable to the CNMI. Most important for the people of Tinian, it will mean that we will have a Delegate in Congress capable of helping the people of Tinian cope with the movement of Marines to Tinian.

“Pete A.,” as he is popularly known, spent the rest of the afternoon walking through the crowd and answering questions posed by the approximately 300 people who visited the event throughout the day. (PR)
