Fundraiser for musicians bound for Olympics set
The CNMI has a chance to project a very positive image to the world this summer. A small group of five musicians from Saipan Southern High School has been chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, as representatives of the Northern Marianas.
A fundraiser will be held this coming Saturday at Porky’s Beach Bar next to Mobile McDonald’s in Garapan. The fun starts at 6pm. There will be music by members of the Manta band and a sampling from the talented musicians that will represent the CNMI in Beijing. Then the popular ICON Band will play for your dancing and listening enjoyment.
A mere $15 gets you a Chinese Dinner and two free drinks. Prizes will be awarded. You may even get a chance to play in the Rock Band!
Tickets are available from Boni Gomez, principal of Garapan Elementary School; Tony Gomez Jr. or other bandmembers at Saipan Southern High School; at Porky’s Beach Bar (233-2444) or send an email to bherealways@gmail.com .
The kids are working hard and will essentially give up their entire summer holiday to practice, travel and perform as the islands’ representatives at the Olympics. They need funds to get them to Guam where they will continue practicing and additional funds to get them to Beijing and maintain them.
Please come out on Saturday, May 24, and support these fine students and their mission to positively portray the Marianas in the upcoming Olympic Games. (PR)
