MANUEL ADA MANGLONA
86 years of age
50-plus years of farming

Manuel Ada Manglona has been farming for more than 50 years of his life. He is devoted to a cultural practice (farming) taught by his parents at an early age. Manglona’s first experience in farming was on Tinian and then he moved to Saipan where he continued to farm until he retired in 2007.

While on Tinian, he was involved in the production of several agricultural products such as cucumber, watermelon, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc., for export to the military base in Guam. He was also a consultant to other farmers while farming on Tinian, and also worked closely with the District Agriculture in promoting these practices.

He is sad to say that in this generation, there are only a handful of locals who actually practice these valuable cultural and traditional practices. As of this time, he is still sharing his lifetime experiences and knowledge in the field of agriculture.

Our hat goes off to this particular gentleman and for others who have passed on their knowledge and experience in hopes of maintaining and carrying on this practice…farming. (PR)
