Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has appointed a member of the Saipan Municipal Council to the NMI Retirement Fund board of trustees.

Marian DLG Tudela was named to serve on the board after she resigned from the board of directors of the Commonwealth Ports Authority.

Tudela’s latest nomination requires Senate confirmation. If confirmed, she will serve as a Fund trustee until May 3, 2012.

Press secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said Tudela resigned from CPA because she “wanted to go back to the Retirement Fund, where she used to serve.”

Tudela served on the Retirement Fund’s board for the most part of the Tenorio administration and the early part of the Babauta administration. That term ended in June 2003.

The CPA board of directors was suspended when Fitial recently took over the ports authority. The governor’s executive order is effective for 120 days. But the Legislature has rejected the executive order, calling for the governor’s to return CPA to board control. The Legislature has also urged Fitial to replace all remaining board members at CPA.
