Tinian Bombers blast DPW/P&S
Tinian Bombers shrugged off its opening day loss to defending champion Office of Public Auditor by thrashing Department of Public Works/Procurement & Supply, 113-71, in the continuation of the PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League Wednesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The cagers from Saipan’s neighboring island exploded from the gates, burying an overmatched DPW/P&S team under an avalanche of points to take command and never looked back.
Tinian led throughout the game, establishing leads of 20 or more points before settling on the 32-point winning margin.
Ton Borja and John Santos led the Tinian charge with 25 and 22 points, respectively. J.R. Reyes, Peter Manglona, Jess Stole, and Julian Aquiningoc also finished in double figures for the now 1-1 win loss team.
DPW/P&S, which dropped to 0-2 in the standings, was paced by the 20 points apiece of Oscar Masga and Herman Tudela.
In the first game, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs groped for form in the first three quarters against a younger and faster Bank of Guam team before rallying in the payoff period for a 92-87 victory.
With former national players James Villacrusis, James Lee, and Gus Palacios leading the way, Bank of Guam enjoyed leads of 25-19, 41-37, and 58-44 in the first three quarters of the ballgame.
DCCA, however, buckled down to work in the final 10 minutes of the contest, as the Twin Towers of Abong Camacho and Taj Van Buren plus sparkplug Elias Rangamar made their presence felt on both offense and defense to turn the tables on Bank of Guam.
They went on to outscore their opponents, 48-29, in the payoff period to leave with the five-point win.
Van Buren torched the nets with a game-high 37 points, while Rangamar and Camacho chipped in 17 and 16 markers, respectively.
The win allowed DCCA to level its win-loss card to 1-1 in a tie with their victims. NMC lost in the opener to NMC.
Bank of Guam won its first game of the season last Friday, May 23, when it bulldozed past Legislature, 85-54.
Jason Taisacan paced the winners with 19 points with Charlie Peters and Gus Palacios adding 16 markers each.
