‘Up to 7 firms submitted green energy proposals’
About six or seven companies have submitted proposals to provide renewable energy to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., according to CUC executive director Antonio Muna.
Muna told Saipan Tribune yesterday that CUC is now in the process of putting together the committee that will review the proposals.
Muna said Gov. Benigno Fitial wants his alternative energy advisor, Dr. James Quick, to also be involved in the process.
“So we are trying to coordinate that. And hopefully we’ll begin the process,” he said.
The renewable energy project is another thing that CUC is hoping will happen over the next six to 12 months, the CUC official said.
Fitial earlier disclosed that more than a dozen companies have expressed interest in the renewable energy project.
The governor said the firms are interested in submitting proposals across a wide range of green technologies, including wind, solar, biodiesel, ocean waves, and geothermal, among other options.
May 16 was the deadline of submission of proposals.
CUC hopes to enter into long-term performance contracts with firms that will be fully responsible for building and running the utility’s renewable power generation projects.
CUC issued the request for proposals in accordance with Public Law 15-23 or the Commonwealth’s Green Energy Law.
