Holy Cross hires ex-NMI national coach

Former CNMI National Men’s and Women’s Team coach Jason Higgins will now ply his trade at the College of Holy Cross after the Division I school hired him as its assistant coach.
According to the website of CBS College Sports, Holy Cross head coach Elvis Comrie and athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. recently announced the hiring of Higgins as its new assistant men’s soccer coach.
The report said Higgins joins the Crusaders after spending last year as the head coach of the Northern Mariana Islands men’s and women’s national teams. He directed all aspects of the Commonwealth’s soccer federation, and coached the men’s and women’s teams to their first international competition.
During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Higgins was an assistant coach for Southern Methodist University.
The Mustangs were ranked in the Top 10 in the nation during both of his seasons, posting an overall record of 31-8-7 and advancing to the 2005 NCAA semifinals.
Before serving as an assistant coach at Southern Methodist, Higgins was the assistant coach at the University of Dayton in 2004, with the Flyers posting an 11-7-1 record. He also spent one year at Rutgers in 2003, with the Scarlet Knights going 11-7-4.
Higgins was the head coach at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. His 2002 team went 10-5-2, to post the third largest turn-around in the nation, in addition to ranking in the Top 20 in the country in scoring.
Higgins began his coaching career as an assistant at Springfield College in 1999 and 2000, after playing for the Pride from 1995-1998. He earned both his bachelor’s degree (1999) and master’s degree (2001) from Springfield.
