Tinian ‘ice’ trafficker gets 6 months
The federal court imposed yesterday a six-month prison term on a man who admitted selling methamphetamine or “ice” on Tinian.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson said that after completing his prison term, Tian Yun Huang shall be placed on three years of supervised release.
Among the conditions of Huang’s supervised release is that the 40-year-old Chinese national shall be delivered to an immigration official for deportation proceedings.
The judge also required the defendant to perform 200 hours of community service and not to commit another federal, state or local crime.
Munson directed Huang to immediately pay a $300 special assessment fee.
The judge remanded the defendant into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
Huang was indicted on three counts of distribution of a controlled substance. He and court-appointed counsel Steven Pixley signed a plea agreement with the U.S. government. Last March he pleaded guilty to all charges.
According to the indictment, Huang sold “ice” on Tinian on Jan. 9 and twice on June 10, 2008. The total amount of “ice” in the three transactions was .39 grams.
A Drug Enforcement Administration special agent stated in his report that on Jan. 9, 2008, detectives from the Department of Public Safety debriefed a confidential source regarding “ice” traffickers on Tinian.
The source disclosed that a man known as Ma was distributing “ice” from his residence in Turn Key Housing in San Jose, Tinian. The agents later discovered that Ma was Huang.[B][I] (Ferdie de la Torre)
