Northern Marianas College Proa finally had a full deck Wednesday night and it showed the way they pummeled Legislature, 111-75, as the 2008 PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League continued Wednesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The game, however, was not as lopsided in the early goings as Legislature only trailed 22-24 and 43-47 in the first two quarters.

But NMC came out smoking in the third quarter and led by Jose Tumaquip, Joe Villacrusis, and Larry Guerrero, outscored Legislature, 32-19, to open up a 15-point lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Proa continued its smooth sailing in the payoff period, while Legislature fell deeper into lackadaisical play that saw it sputtering to the finish by adding a mere 13 points in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

In contrast, the islands’ lone tertiary institution ballooned its lead to more than 30 points even as their shock-troopers replaced their first stringers by the middle of the fourth.

With the likes of Chris Tomakane, Jake Villagomez, and Ray MacDuff leading the way, NMC routed Legislature in the last canto to the tune of 34-13 to win the game by whopping 36 points.

The win allowed NMC to improve its win-loss mark to 2-1, while the loss was the fourth in five outings for the boys from Capital Hill.

Joe Villacrusis was on target all game long, firing 26 points in the victory. Lawrence Buniag, Tumaquip, and Mark Wallace also finished with double-digit scores for NMC in the win.

Dave Apatang wound up as Legislature’s leading scorer after burning the nets for 21 points. Ray D.L. Guerrero also added 18 in the loss.

NMC 111 – Villacrusis 26, Buniag 13, Tumaquip 11, Wallace 10, Roberto 9, Guerrero 9, Villagomez 8, Tomokane 8, Manibusan 8, MacDuff 5, Diaz 4.

Legislature 75 – Apatang 21, Guerrero 18, Ilo 11, Duenas 9, Cabrera 7, Besong 5, Bermudes 2, Punzalan 2.

Scoring by quarters: 24-22, 47-43, 77-62, 111-75.
