Acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez has named two individuals to serve on the Commonwealth Election Commission.

Josepha Barcinas was nominated to represent Rota, and Vicente C. Reyes was appointed to represent Tinian. Both appointments require Senate confirmation.

If confirmed, Barcinas will serve a four-year term, which will expire on May 23, 2012. Reyes will serve on the commission until July 21, 2011.

They will join chairwoman Frances M. Sablan, and members Miranda V. Manglona, Elizabeth Dlg. Aldan, Melvin B. Sablan, Jose L. Itibus, Jesus I. Sablan, and Jose P. Kiyoshi in the commission.

The commission is faced with the task of holding the first-ever election for U.S. congressional delegate in November this year. There are ongoing efforts to get initiatives to amend the Constitution and the law on the ballot.

In related news, Villagomez appointed Sixto K. Igisomar to serve as a member of the NMI Retirement Fund board of trustees. His appointment went into effect retroactively to April 2, 2008. Igisomar’s nomination is also subject to Senate confirmation.
