Man allegedly threatens woman with machete
A man allegedly barged inside a bedroom and threatened to kill with a machete a horrified woman who was with her two minor daughters in San Jose Friday midnight.
A responding police officer arrested Randy R. Dela Cruz, 32, for assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, and criminal mischief.
In yesterday’s hearing, Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $1,500 cash bail for Dela Cruz’s temporary liberty.
A detective stated in his report that on Friday at 12:50am a man contacted police and reported a disturbance at his barracks-type tin house in San Jose.
A responding officer entered the barracks and secured Dela Cruz who was standing in the hallway.
Inside the room, the officer saw the victim sitting on the bed and crying, with her two children—ages 4 and 6—wrapped in her arms.
Dela Cruz was placed under arrest. A crime scene technician seized the machete that he allegedly used to threaten the victim.
The woman told police that she was asleep with her two daughters in bed when the suspect, who was shouting, broke their bedroom door. The victim said she and her daughters jumped up and started screaming in fear.
Dela Cruz allegedly kept shouting at the victim, asking her why she was talking behind his back. He then left the room, went to the kitchen and returned with a machete.
The suspect allegedly raised the machete above his head and yelled at her, “Do you want me to kill you?”
The victim begged the suspect not to hurt them. Dela Cruz left the room and went back to the kitchen. At this time, police arrived.
A witness said he was asleep when he heard somebody shouting and banging in the hallway.
He said he heard a banging on his bedroom door calling for him to come out the room. He could hear the suspect punching a hole on the door.
The witness did not open the door. Dela Cruz allegedly kept punching the door, yelling at him and challenging him to a fight and saying he is not afraid of the police.
The witness got scared so he called the police. He said the banging on the door stopped and he later heard the victim and her children screaming.
The detective’s report did not mention the relationship between Dela Cruz and the victim or the witness.
