Citi helps prepare Guam students for college
The Citi Foundation granted $15,000 to Guam Community College to assist in its mission of making college accessible to everyone and to continue the Summer Bridge Program.
With the Citi Foundation grant, 20 high school seniors are receiving academic instruction in English, reading and math. The 2008 Summer Bridge Program runs from June 16 –27, 2008. The two-week program also provides workshops on college financial aid, career exploration, team building exercises, cultural diversity and a personal money management session conducted by a Citi volunteer.
Madhu Seshadri, Citi Guam’s corporate country officer/country business manager, expressed his keen support for gaining higher education and reducing the barriers to college.
“The personal and professional success of our youth have a tremendous impact on our island’s future economic landscape. There are numerous opportunities for Guam’s growth in the coming years with the military expansion,” said Seshadri. “We at Citi are passionate about bridging the gap to college, increasing awareness of career choices and improving young people’s understanding of personal money management. We are pleased to partner with the Guam Community College in preparing our youth for success.”
Dr. Michelle Santos, GCC Dean of Technology and Student Services, said: “Guam Community College is pleased with this new partnership established with the Citi Foundation. We are excited to join together to contribute to increased opportunities for our youth and to make our community a better place. The impact on the community is a better-educated society and a stronger workforce particularly in light of the impending military buildup on Guam.”
