Muña ready to leave CUC if Guerrero comes in
Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Antonio Muña is ready to give up his position if former CUC executive director Ramon Guerrero will return to the utility agency.
In a recent interview with Saipan Tribune, Muña said if Gov. Benigno Fitial wants Guerrero to take his position he will respect that decision.
“He [Fitial] can make that decision,” the CUC official said.
Asked whether he believes the former CUC chief and senator can do a better job, Muña replied: “I never look at it that way.”
As for Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz’s recommendation that Guerrero be considered for the post, Muña simply shrugged. “My boss isn’t Greg Cruz,” he said, smiling.
Guerrero recently blasted CUC’s recent deal to lease emergency power generator from Aggreko International, saying the utility agency’s leadership failed to consider a host of key problems with the contract.
Guerrero noted that the $6 million contract contains a cap on the monetary penalty CUC can impose on Aggreko if the generators consume more fuel than expected.
He said the provision could leave the government paying for thousands in fuel costs each month.
