Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan concluded its latest American Red Cross Water Safety Course last Saturday at Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan with 63 students receiving their certificate of completions.

Club president Stan Good said of the 63 who graduated, 22 were from Level I, 16 from Level 2, 19 from Level 3, and four in Level 6. Level 1 is for beginners, while Level 6 is for advance swimmers.

Last Saturday’s conclusion of Tsunami Saipan’s ARC Water Safety Course was its third for the 2007-2008 season. In all, a total of 188 have already leaned to swim under the fledgling club’s program, broken down as follows: 56 in October 2007; 69 in April 2008, and 63 in July 2008.

He said the coaches for the July 2008 ARC Water Safety Course includes himself, Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura, NMASA Hall of Famer Michael Villagomez, Valrick Welch, Tamiko Winkfield, Daniel Villegas, Shin Kimura, Kensuke Kimura, Marystar Welch, Thea Minor, Hiroko Tenorio, and Masayo Fitial.

Serving as assistant coaches, meanwhile, were Keana Villagomez, Ashley Welch, Fumika Umeda, Takumi Sugie, and Daisuke Fitial.

Good said aside from the CNMI Chapter of the American Red Cross, which is headed by its executive director John Hirsh, he would also like to extend his warmest gratitude for the management of Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan.

“We want to thank Fiesta Resort for their generous support. They allowed the use of the pool for each consecutive Saturday. This is the third time they have allowed the use of their pool at no cost to either Red Cross or Tsunami Saipan. Without the central location they offered, I doubt if so many would participate,” he said.

Good said the next session of their wildly popular ARC Water Safety Course will be held in September 2008.

“There’s just too many kids and a lot of coaches are on vacation and then school starts in August so some time is needed to get everyone back together and organized.”
