Island Business Link, a web-based business tool designed to connect business owners in the U.S. insular areas with partners and investors abroad, has begun drawing the interest of businesses, which have signed up to avail of this free networking tool.

During their two weeks on the islands last month, the Department of the Interior’s Island Fellows launched the Link by advertising it on various media (TV, radio, newspaper), training business people on the site, presenting to large and small groups and meeting individually about potential opportunities.

After only two weeks, the Office of Insular Affairs said these meetings resulted in 560 registered members and 145 different business opportunities on the site.

“Media has generated significant awareness on the site and in the last 24 hours, 18 new business opportunities have been posted for a grand total of 163,” according to the OIA website.

This free, on-line tool is designed to help business owners network, connect, and expand their businesses by posting business opportunities. The site is analogous to an on-line dating tool for businesses; connecting people with similar interests and business aspirations.

Similar to the Island Business Opportunities Conference, Island Business Link provides an easily accessible forum for starting and continuing meaningful business relationships that will have a positive economic impact on the islands.

The Island Fellows will spend their remaining seven weeks in Washington D.C. continuing to develop Island Business Link, contacting partners for the site, and marketing the Island Business Opportunities conference, scheduled for Hawaii April 6-8, 2009.[B][I] (DOI)
