Inos expresses confidence in confirmation by Senate
Attorney Perry Inos has expressed confidence that the Senate will soon affirm his appointment as an associate judge.
“I talked to most of the senators and they committed their affirmative vote for me,” Inos told Saipan Tribune in an interview shortly after chief justice Miguel S. Demapan delivered his State of the Judiciary Address Friday.
Inos said what he understands is that the senators are putting together a schedule for a public hearing on the three islands regarding his appointment.
“But I’m not sure when that is. This is just informal, but I’m hearing somewhere between the late last week of July to first or second week of August. That’s the timeline they were working on,” he said.
Inos said that when he assumes the bench, people could expect from him the constitutional requirements for the judge—to be fair and impartial.
As for some people saying he is too young for the position, the 41-year-old Inos cited the NMI Constitution, which requires that a judge, at a minimum, be 35 years old.
A native of Rota, the lawyer has been practicing law in the NMI since 1995.
When asked why he accepted Gov. Benigno Fitial’s appointment as Juan T. Lizama’s replacement, Inos said it was an honor in the first place.
Secondly, he said, it is “a change in atmosphere, a different type of workload.”
Inos graduated with a bachelor’s degree, major in business management, from the University of Guam in 1987. He attended the University of New Mexico School of Law and received his law degree in 1994.
Before becoming a lawyer, he worked as a teacher at Rota High School.
