Senate confirms 2 appointees
The Senate yesterday confirmed a gubernatorial appointee to the NMI Retirement Fund and another to the Commonwealth Election Commission.
By unanimous vote, the senators approved the appointment of Marian DLG. Tudela to the Retirement Fund board of trustees and the reappointment of Josepha Barcinas to the Election Commission.
Tudela, a member of the Saipan Municipal Council, was named to the Retirement Fund after she resigned from the board of directors of the Commonwealth Ports Authority. She will serve as a Retirement Fund trustee until May 3, 2012.
Tudela had previously sat on the Retirement Fund’s board. She served was a trustee of the pension agency for the most part of the Tenorio administration and the early part of the Babauta administration. Her last term ended in June 2003.
Barcinas will represent Rota to the Election Commission. She will serve a four-year term, which will expire on May 23, 2012.
Barcinas currently works as acting program coordinator at the Office of Aging on Rota.
Another appointee to the Election Commission is awaiting confirmation by the Senate. Vicente C. Reyes was appointed to represent Tinian. If confirmed, Reyes will serve on the commission until July 21, 2011.
Barcinas and Reyes will join chairwoman Frances M. Sablan, and members Miranda V. Manglona, Elizabeth Dlg. Aldan, Melvin B. Sablan, Jose L. Itibus, Jesus I. Sablan, and Jose P. Kiyoshi in the commission.
