The Division of Environmental Quality is asking the public to attend a series of meetings across the CNMI to learn more about historical land use and underground storage tanks on Saipan, Tinian and Rota, and ultimately close them in an environmentally friendly manner.

DEQ is conducing a site survey on the three islands to identify locations of tanks that may be contaminated or have possible leaks. The department is seeking also to gather information from the public about potential storage tanks and land use storage tanks.

The department is looking for sites of fuel dispensing facilities or former gasoline stations. The sites may have been abandoned or redeveloped years ago.

Duenas & Associates, Inc. will conduct the survey.

The meetings are as followed:

-Saipan-Monday at 11 a.m. in the Office on Aging Conference room

-Tinian-Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. in the Office of the Mayor Conference room

-Rota-Friday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. in the Office of the Mayor Conference room (Kristi Eaton)
