Sakudi players lead Belau batting and pitching
With Sakudi still unbeaten in five games, it is not surprising that its players are leading the batting and pitching races in the women’s league of the 2008 Belau Amateur Softball Association.
Pauline Tudela went 10-for-14 in five games to top the batting race after the first round of the regular season. She had a batting average of .714, beating nine other players.
The Top 10 batting leaders were determined based on 12 or more times at bat.
Atu Asi’s Kuki Pangelinan is currently in second place with a batting average of .600. She went 9-for-15 at bat in six games with Atu Asi, which is at the bottom of the team standings with a dismal 1-5 record.
Jenny Teigita and Liz Lebria of Esta Ombe are tied for third with identical batting averages of .583. They both hit 7-for-12 from the plate.
Atu Asi’s Pauline Camacho is in solo fourth, going 7-for-13 for an average of .538, while Ohn Sakau’s Dolorina Panuelo and Kayla Techur of Sakudi are sharing fifth place, recording an average of .533 after hitting 8-for-15.
Others who made it to the Top 10 were Ohn Sakau’s Roquita Norita (.529), Merselyn Santos (.500) and Semerina Simram (.500).
Five players tied for the most runs scored with seven each. Comprising the list are Emma Tenorio, Santos, Jenny Palacios, Berta Camacho and Techur.
Berta Camacho and Jenny Palacios had two doubles apiece with the latter making the most triples with two. Panuelo also had two triples.
Melissa Benjamin and Poly Omechelang are leading the home runs race with two each, while Norita is on top of the RBIs list with 10.
In the pitching race, Sakudi players are occupying the top two spots. Charlene Cabrera played only one game and in five innings allowed only three hits, giving up no runs and leading Sakudi to a win. She has a 0.00 ERA.
Cabrera’s teammate Bego Camacho is in second place with a 2.15 ERA. She played four games, pitched 26 innings, allowed 32 hits and gave up six runs.
Felisa Brel of the Hitters, who shares the lead with Sakudi, is currently the third leading pitcher in the league with a 4.20 ERA. Panuelo is in fourth place recording a 4.83 ERA, followed by Teigita (7.00 ERA), Omechelang (8.65) and Meng Yamada of Atu Asi (13.65).
Yamada has the most strikeouts with 10.
The pitching leaders were based on five or more times at bat.
In the men’s division, Choll A’s Manny Sablan is the pacesetter in the batting list with an average of .692. He went 9-for-13 at bat in five games.
Leo Bobai of SAI-PAL hit 8-for-12 for an average of .667 to remain a strong contender for the batting king.
Auel Auel’s Lucian George (.615) is in third place, followed by Brotherhood’s J.J. Laniyo (.563), PIC’s Tomy Kennington (.556), Brotherhood’s Ben Tagabuel (.550), PIC’s Thunderson Sokau (.545), the Falcon’s Jarvis Pinaula (.538), Brotherhood’s Jerry Ayuyu (.538), Ready Mix’s (538) and Mendel Techur (.538).
Julian Camacho failed to make it to the Top 10, but leads the league in the most run scored category with 10. Ben Taisacan has the most doubles so far with four, while seven players have one triple each.
Jerry Ayuyu is ahead in the home runs race with three, while Laniyo is on top of the RBIs’ leaderboard with 11.
PTI’s Roque Camacho beat nine others in the pitching contest. He had an ERA of 0.78 in three games, pitching 19 innings, allowing 13 hits and giving up only one run.
Brotherhood’s Elias Rangamar is in second place with a 2.00 ERA.
Completing the Top 10 were Ready Mix’s Henry Palacios (2.45 ERA), George (2.74), Man Amigos’s Mike Sablan (2.95), Laiyo (3.29), the Falcons’ Al Ngiraibuuch (3.36) PTI’s Tony Luzama (4.00), Bobai (4.55) and Haga T’s Mel Tudela (4.55)
Ruben Olkeriil leads the strikeouts race with 10.
The men’s league is on the midway point of the regular season with two teams having unbeaten records. Brotherhood is undefeated in six games, while Man Amigos are still clean after three assignments. (Roselyn B. Monroyo)
