SIS 5K Fun Run set for Oct. 18
Saipan International School is ready to hold its annual 5K Fun Run in the morning of Oct. 18, according to event coordinator Betty Johnson.
The run will start and finish at Banzai Cliff Memorial Park in Marpi. The turning point will be at Cow Town Raceway Park.
For first-timers on Saipan, Johnson said that Cow Town is the road going to the landfill but runners will not reach the site.
Registration will begin at 6am, an hour before the 7am send-off time.
Proceeds from the event will benefit SIS. Johnson said it will be for the payment of the fund that was used to construct the new school building, which was completed last year.
Around 135 runners joined the event in 2007.
Runners of all ages can join the fun run and Johnson said prizes for age group categories would be awarded if enough funds would be available.
In the meantime, the prizes for the overall Top 3 finishers are guaranteed.
Each participant will pay an entry fee of $10.
The first 120 registrants will receive an event T-shirt.
Johnson said all participants are entitled for an entry ticket that would be raffled for a chance to win exciting prizes.
Johnson said they are still getting confirmation from a number of interested sponsors.
However, she said that in the past, all kids who completed the five-kilometer course were given Big Dipper gift certificates. She also said that DFS has also made a committment to donate gift certificates.
Interested participants (runners, sponsors, and volunteers) should contact SIS at 288-9660 for more information.
Eli Torgeson won the seventh edition of the annual fundraising event last year with a record time of 16 minutes and 40 seconds.
Torgeson’s five-year-old son Carston was also first in the 1-km race with a time of 21:28.
The father-and-son tandem are unavailable for confirmation if they will be joining and defend their crown this year.
