In a statement issued this week, the Western Pacific Academy of Science and Environmental Management is calling on students and professionals to submit presentations ahead of an annual conference on Saipan later this year.

The academy is a professional organization founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting debate and dialogue on environmental management issues.

Those interested in submitting a 15- to 20-minute presentation “on any aspect of their recent work which may be of interest to the CNMI’s science and environmental management community” are encouraged, the statement says, to contact organizers John Furey or Andre Kozij for details—jfurey@saipan.com or akaspn@hotmail.com.

The statement adds that the academy’s leadership is now seeking a federal designation as a non-profit organization in a bid to expand the scope of its outreach work and gain funding support for projects.

A venue for the conference has yet to be announced. However, organizers say it will likely take place one day in late November or early December from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The academy’s last conference was in March at American Memorial Park’s auditorium.
