Umangs sweep Turtles in U12 football
Koblerville Elementary School recorded twin wins against Oleai Elementary School in the Inaugural 2008 NMIFA U12 Interscholastic Football League yesterday at the Hugging Umangs field.
The Lady Umangs shut out the Lady Turtles, 2-0, in the first game, while the boys team of Koblerville posted a similar 2-0 triumph over Oleai boys’ squad to complete a sweep in their debut in the league.
Nancy Oscar scored the Lady Umangs’ first goal in the first half, while Angela Achime made another one in the second half.
Ferlisa Quitugia was the Lady Umangs’ goalkeeper and she did a good job in the entire game, making several saves.
Coach Francis Mendiola had 14 players suiting up for the Lady Umangs. The list include Jurinah Navarro, Emily DeWitt, Merly-Ann Fernandez, Danielle Mafnas, Sonya Isaac, Kavia Bachandani, Loria Hocog, Judyan Rabauliman, Noely San Juan, Marchie Fernandez, and Josephine Estrada.
CNMI Women’s National team member Roxie Lamar called the shots for the Lady Turtles, who are composed of Malua Hosono, Kaylen Salle, Jonalien Jonathan, Elgien Enriquez, Kathruth Sabangiol, Salena Calma, Andrea Marquez, Carmen Haro, Illarchem Ythemar, Jonah Litulimar, Rayna Rony, Reina Asano, and Jasmine Weilbacher.
In the boys division, Keoni Borja connected on two penalty shots in the first half to lift the Umangs to another shutout victory over the Turtles.
Jonathan Jonah was the Oleai’s goalie in the first half and on both occasions he failed to save the ball, allowing Borja to score.
In the second half, Oleai had two chances to score, but Umangs goalkeeper Franklin Lizama dove for the ball preventing Oleai from making goals.
Joining Lizama and Borja on the Umangs roster are Norman and Freeman Defang, Emerson Feria, Jesus Rabauliman, Donovan Castro, Jerry Kikku, San Juan Ariola, Kent Kalen, Wesley Emul, Lewis Jakin, Peng Zhi, Glenn Zacharas, Finson They, Dexter Welley, Jonathan Villagomez, Jason Villagomez, Kelvin Jack Deleon Guerrero, and Fredrick Encobo.
Oleai has an 18-man roster for the U12 league. The list include Ed Cordero, Atiron Norita, John Taisacan, Brian Lee, Braylan Floresca, Esnicleebert Siden, Resty Helson, Midcat Tipingini, Vynzent Maniacop, Dennis Norita, Jason Rangaar, Jonas Langu, R.T. Kafoto, Yoneil Maniacop, Joaquin Rangamar, Kenneth Park, and Chester Floresca.
Three more games were played yesterday, but results were unavailable at press time.
DanDan A played against San Vicente at the Canaries home field in the other Southern Group match.
Over at the north side, Gregorio T. Camacho hosted Eucon International School, while Whispering Palms/Brilliant Star collided with Saipan International School at the Garapan Elementary School Field.
The inaugural U12 league has seven teams in the Northern Group and eight in the Southern Division.
Each group will play in a single-round robin regular season with the top two teams in each division advancing to the playoffs.
