CUC collects $90 million plus in fiscal year 2008
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. collected more than $90 million from customers during the fiscal year 2008 billing cycle.
Altogether, the utility company charged customers $110,440,125 and collected $91,466,366 for more 274 million kilowatt hours used.
May 2008 saw the lowest month of collections at $5.8 million while July 2008 saw the highest month of collections at $8.6 million.
Because of the way the billing cycles work, October collections, for example, are from the August-September usage period.
For the latest month recorded, October 2008, CUC collected $7.4 million for nearly 15 million kilowatt hours. The October 2008 collection period, which would be the August-September usage period, saw the lowest amount of kilowatts used by customers.
Since October 2007, usage has declined from 24 million kilowatt hours to 15 million kilowatt hours for the October 2008 collection period.
But the usage numbers were before the Aggreko generators were brought in, which stabilized power, said Antonio Muña, CUC executive director.
The collection period months of July, August, September and October 2008 saw the lowest usage numbers, but this was also when the outages were the most severe, he added. During the month of July, there were 896 hours of outages, and the month of August saw 725 hours of outages.
Through Oct. 24, this month has seen 44 hours of outages.
Despite the low usage rates during the July through October collection cycle, the four months saw some of the highest total charges and collection rates during the fiscal year.
Judging by the use of fuel at the power plants, Muña said he anticipates 20 million kilowatt hours will be used for this month’s usage cycle.
In May, CUC more than doubled the power rates for customers.
