Motheread/Fatheread program marks decade
To highlight the CNMI Motheread/Fatheread programs’ 10th anniversary, past and present Motheread trainers, story sharing instructors and parent trainers hosted a “Family Literacy Festival” at Dandan Elementary School last Oct. 25, 2008.
The event, held in collaboration with the Public School System, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, and NMI Council for the Humanities, showcased the literary talents, creativity and skills of students, parents, teachers from the different schools in the CNMI. It also featured local authors and their works.
The program also held a recognition dinner at the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan to honor those who have contributed to the successes of the Motheread/Fatheread program for the last 10 years.
In her opening remarks at the recognition dinner, Viola Deleon Guerrero, Motheread program coordinator, said: “Thank you for your presence and for the opportunity to get together and celebrate your accomplishments over the years. Whether you are here tonight as a sponsor, a partner, a facilitator of parent groups, or a story sharing instructors of young minds, you all have contributed in one way or another in ‘Helping Families Learn Together.’ Congratulations for all that you do!”
Lyn Tenorio, who was the keynote speaker at the dinner, shared the highlights of the Motheread program and the rewards of bringing to the homes of the CNMI community the “power of story.” (Saipan Tribune)
